The programme of the week will include several keynote sessions with invited guest speakers, as well as interactive workshops and interesting study visits. The contents of the workshops concentrate around three broad main thematic areas high on the EU agenda, namely

Design of future services

Low carbon economy

Digitalisation and industrial internet

The theme Design of future services emphasizes the topics being discussed in many European countries at the moment, such as the aging societies, promotion of social innovation and entrepreneurship, public-private partnerships, and equality. In the workshops, we seek for new ideas and potentials for future services using a variety of service design methods, with keywords such as user research and engagement, open innovation and entrepreneurship, and business support of SMEs.

In the field of Low carbon economy, we will discuss and debate topics around environment, waste and water management, new materials, energy efficiency and renewable energy. There is a need for holistic solutions to address this global challenge, ranging from technological innovations to systemic approaches.

Third theme concentrates on the megatrend of Digitalization, which affects most of our lives, not only as citizens and consumers, but also the industry and businesses providing all sorts of goods and services. Therefore, industrial internet is changing the technological and business ecosystems of companies and SMEs, posing needs for renewal of strategies and business models, production and collaboration.

In all of the workshops, we will jointly identify and innovate opportunities for European higher education institutions to actively engage in making a better future, both for Europe and globally. The goal is to find new ways to support and promote internationalization and integration of education and R&D, as well as to facilitate collaboration and partnership with enterprises, especially SMEs.

THE AIM OF THE WEEK, in addition to networking, is to generate and initialise new joint international project ideas. In addition, the participants of the Research, Development and Innovation can network with the participants of International Week for Engineering which is organized during the same week in TAMK. Furthermore, exciting social events will give you a chance to discover the city of Tampere and experience Finnish nature and culture.
